I know it is already 2012 but I have to do a short wrap up of 2011 before I can really wrap my head around this year.
I like to make a list of the places I have traveled. I made a goal last year of leaving the country two times a year and I’m two for two!
Places I’ve Been in 2011
Austin, TX
San Francisco, CA
New Orleans, LA*
Rhinebeck + Red Hook, NY*
Washington DC/Maryland area*
Boston, MA
Hamburg, Germany
Prague, Czech Republic
Johnstown, PA
*Places I went to more than once.
I usually do a best of list for films but this year I just didn’t see enough to really feel like I can be so bold as to create my “official list”. Beginners and Weekend left strong impressions on me. Both are films I have seen more than once and think about often.
I was traveling so much with my film (A)sexual that when I got home, I just watched television. My favorite show of 2011 was by far Homeland. It is gripping with incredible performances by all especially Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin. I can’t wait to see what their next season brings. (Shout out to New Girl and of course, Modern Family, my two other can’t miss shows.)
Now, onto 2012 and Mad Men’s return!
I already knew Steve McQueen was a kickass director but this makes me LOVE him all the more. I don’t want to spoil what goes on here. Just watch and notice how the others directors just won’t go there. The lack of diversity in film needs to be questioned like this more often.
Check out my new web series, Black Folk Don’t. This is one of my fave epidoes: Black Folk Don’t Go To Therapy.
